How I Saved Hundreds on College Application Fees

I saved hundreds on college application fees – 6 out of 7, zero application fees!

I didn’t realize how expensive college application fees were until I started applying to universities. The fees can be between $75 and $200! 😱 If you’re applying to six or more schools, it really adds up. Here are some tricks I figured out to get free applications:

Program information session

↳ Attend information sessions hosted by U.S. universities. Sometimes, they share a code at the end to waive the application fee.

↳ Chat with the admissions head and check if there is any application fee waiver available.

Contact Universities Directly:

↳ Request a Fee Waiver: Many universities offer their own fee waivers for students who demonstrate financial need. Contact the admissions office directly to explain your situation and request a waiver.

↳ Apply During Free Application Periods: Some universities have specific periods when they waive application fees for all applicants. Keep an eye on these dates and apply accordingly.

Attend Universities Fairs:

↳ Some universities offer fee waivers to students who attend their information sessions or college fairs, either virtually or in person. Make sure to sign up and participate actively.

Apply for Scholarships and Financial Aid Early:

↳ Some scholarships cover application fees as part of their benefits. Apply for as many scholarships as possible and explore financial aid options early in the process.

↳ Some universities do have need-based scholarships if you require them.

Be Mindful of University Policies:

↳Not all universities offer application fee waivers. Some institutions might not have any waiver policies at all, so be mindful when reaching out. Always check the university’s website or contact the admissions office to understand their specific policies before applying.

Have you tried any of these tips? How did you save on application fees?
