Mistakes to Avoid While Studying for GRE or GMAT

Preparing for the GRE/GMAT doesn’t have to be stressful. Learn from these tips and make your study time effective!

When studying for such exams, it’s common to waste time on questions you can easily solve. Focus on your weaker sections early and concentrate on improving them. This way, you’ll improve where it matters most.

1. Don’t spend too much time studying every single concept. Take a mock exam early on to pinpoint where you’re struggling, then focus on those areas. This targeted approach saves a lot of time.

2. Studying alone can be tough, especially when you’re stuck. Seek expert help if you’re struggling, you will get good suggestions and strategies.  Even if you spend a little more money on expertise, it will pay off in the long run either through scholarships or chances of getting into better schools.

3. Random study times can lead to stress and burnout. Create a study schedule and stick to specific times during your most productive hours—whether morning or evening. This helps maintain discipline and avoids burnout.

4. Balancing work and study is challenging. There will be days when you can hardly study because of work. Don’t over-stress. Stay disciplined, make the most of your available study time, and give yourself grace when things get hectic.

5. Regular revision at the end of each week and month keeps new concepts fresh in your mind. Make sure to revise what you’ve studied regularly to retain information better.

6. Isolating yourself to study more can lead to stress. Don’t avoid socialising completely. Social interaction is important for mental health and helps avoid burnout.
