One of the Most Underrated Skills is Asking for Help
During my first job at Deloitte, I often hesitated to ask for assistance and tried to figure out mostly by myself. However, one day, while struggling with a project, I finally decided to reach out to a colleague.
To my surprise, they were more than willing to help and shared valuable insights that I hadn’t considered.
It’s important to note that the way you handle problem-solving can vary depending on your team lead or manager.
Some might want you to handle all the analysis and figure things out on your own, while others might prefer you to reach out for expert help right away to avoid wasting time.
I have found that striking a good balance involves doing a quick analysis to see if I can figure things out and identify any roadblocks. If I can solve it using Google or AI tools, great. If not, I hit the “ask the expert” button to keep things moving forward without wasting time.
By seeking help, I not only found a better way to approach the task but also completed it more efficiently. Plus, it strengthened my relationship with my colleagues.
Remember, getting to an answer with someone’s help is better than spending precious time trying to figure it out and ending up nowhere or having to redo the entire thing.
Efficiency and productivity go hand in hand. Don’t be afraid to ask for help—it can lead to better solutions and stronger connections.
Side note: Don’t hesitate to reach out—collaboration often leads to better solutions.
